Privacy Policy – MobilityTrader

MobilityTrader is based in Canada, and we handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). This policy explains what we collect, why, and what choices you have.

Information We Collect

Account information: email address, password (stored as a one-way hash, never in plain text), display name, and, if you provide them, company name, phone number, city/province/country, postal code, website, and a short bio.

Listing content: whatever you submit about a vehicle, trailer, or piece of equipment - description, price, specs, photos, and video.

Compliance documents: if you claim FMVSS/CMVSS compliance or NMEDA/QAP Certified Installer status, the supporting document you upload. These are only ever visible to you and to our admin team for review - never shown to other buyers or sellers.

Messages and reviews: messages you send other users through the site, and reviews you leave about a seller.

Payment records: for paid listing features, a record of the amount, method, and any reference number you provide for an e-transfer. If you pay by card, that goes directly through Stripe, our payment processor - we never see or store your full card number; we only keep Stripe's confirmation that the charge went through.

Technical information: IP address, and standard request logs (which endpoint was hit, when, by which account) that we keep to operate the site reliably and investigate abuse.

Cookies: a single session cookie that keeps you signed in. We don't use third-party advertising or analytics trackers.

How We Use It

To operate your account and let you list, search, message, and review.
To review compliance/certification claims and display the resulting badge.
To confirm payments for paid listing features.
To investigate suspected fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms of Service.
To respond when you contact us.

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

What Other Users Can See

Your display name (and company name, if you're a dealer) appears publicly on your listings and reviews. Listing details and photos you submit are public. Compliance/certification documents are never shown to other users - only the resulting verified/pending/rejected badge is. Your email, phone number, and exact address are never shown to other users; buyers and sellers communicate through MobilityTrader's own messaging feature.

How We Protect It

Passwords are hashed, never stored in plain text. All traffic to MobilityTrader is encrypted (HTTPS). Session cookies are set to be inaccessible to page scripts and only sent over a secure connection. We keep regular backups so an outage or hardware failure doesn't mean losing your data, and access to backups and admin tools is restricted to our own team.

Your Rights

Under PIPEDA, you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and associated personal information (subject to what we need to keep for legal, fraud-prevention, or accounting reasons). To make a request, email support@mobilitytrader.ca. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Children's Privacy

MobilityTrader is not directed at, and we don't knowingly collect information from, anyone under 18.

Changes to this Policy

If we make a material change to how we handle your information, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
